World Mental Health Day 10th October 2022

Today is an international day for global Mental Health education awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.

It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organisation with members and contacts in more than a 150 countries.

TODAY 10TH October, thousands of supporters come to celebrate this annual awareness program to bring attention to mental illness and its major effects on people’s lives worldwide.

With everything that is happening around us right now, it can be easy to feel powerless, but there are aspects of our life we can manage and control. We want you to embrace what is in your power to start doing, stop doing or change something that will support your mental health.

so, this world mental health day, ask yourself…. What can you do to make Mental Health Day a priority.

What’s in your circle of control?

When thinking about how to look after number one, a great place to start is visualising what’s in your circle of control. What aspects of your life can you make a priority, what brings meaning and comfort to your life? Are they within your control?

You’re sure to find something within your circle of control that can bring about a positive impact on your mental health.

CONNECT

With the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues, and neighbours. Building these relationships will support and enrich your everyday.

BE ACTIVE

Step outside, go for a walk, cycle, run, play a game. Being active makes you feel active, so find something you enjoy doing and get out there!

TAKE NOTICE

Be curious, be mindful, savour the moment. Whether walking to work or talking to friends, be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. With awareness comes appreciation.

KEEP LEARNING

Try something new. Re-discover an old interest, sign up for that course. Learning new things will make you more confident.

GIVE

Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone, smile at a stranger or volunteer your time for a cause. This can be so rewarding.
